FLACK Beer Cams ... how they work
Our beercams are essentially pinhole cameras, inside each can is a sheet of photographic paper opposite a small pinhole. The light entering the can gradually imprints an image of the view outside onto the photographic paper. This takes at least three months so the cameras only capture still objects like buildings and trees and have to remain in a fixed position tied to a drainpipe or lamp post.
Dec - March (tied to a lamp post and capturing the winter solstice of the sun above the owner’s house)
Dec - April View of Cambridge Market from the Mayor’s Parlour Balcony - north facing hence no sun trails in this image
“I'm frantically happy with this - wish I'd done it. Credits: your photographer friend who first had the idea, the person who loaded it, the sun for showering it with photons, the rain for leaking through the seal and prettifying the edges, and last and least me for blow-drying it and putting it in the scanner.”
Melancholy Rhino
After three months the photographic paper is taken out of the can and immediately scanned.
The image at that point is a negative which is then digitally inverted and reversed to create the final image.
Dec - March (the camera was facing a car park and has captured the sun glinting on the windscreens of the cars)
Create your own 3 month pinhole photograph of your house or garden. These cameras make a great talking point gift.
Our kits come complete with full instructions and include free scanning and digital processing by FLACK.

more than a magazine

“What is most magical about the FLACK Beer Cams is that they capture the journeys of the sun over the sky - creating a photograph that no high tech digital camera could ever achieve.”
